Thanks for those who sent in thoughts! Our first version of this Slack to Canny integration will include creating posts and adding votes from Slack.

Voting, idea submission and event commenting from slack would be great
Sarah Hum
Upper Salamander: "Event commenting" as in replying to posts/comments from Slack?

Our team is currently investigating an improvement to our Slack integration: being able to track feedback from within Slack. This will be great if your team has product conversations in Slack. If you have thoughts on how you'd like this to work, please leave a comment or send us a message!

Hey Melissa, thanks for posting!
We don't let you create Canny posts from Slack because we want to make sure to avoid creating duplicate posts. That said, commenting and voting is an interesting use case. Can you expand on how exactly you picture it working?

Andrew Rasmussen: understood. Thanks for the quick reply!
The use case I am envisioning is that our Canny board is attached to a public slack channel. People can view new feature requests as they come in via a slack notification, and if they like it or have a question/ comment, they can do that in slack vs logging in to canny. It's the same concept as reactions in slack. Perhaps you can set a certain type of reaction to equate to a upvote (say thumbs up or something) or any reply is a comment ? This is important to us because we want to receive feedback from other depts in the org, but their barrier to give it to us is that theres too many platforms for them to log in too etc. We have so many as a company - like SalesForce, Jira, confluence, gsuite, finance tools etc. The easier it is for them to give feedback, the more they will do it, the better we will be able to understand the needs. Particularly for something like an upvote (or if you introduce likes, same thing), bc a user isnt going to log in to a diff platform like Canny just to look at what exists, but they may spot it in slack.
This would require your canny user name and slack user name to be the same (or i guess associated w the same email ?) which i assume if companies use it internally, it is bc its based on your work email auth (outlook, gmail etc). But I am sure you have people who use Canny differently, so perhaps its only if you have your board set as private with your company domain.
Thanks for thinking about this!

Adding to this, there's actually an up arrow and a bubble emoji already in the post in slack! It would be ideal that if you press on the up arrow, it upvotes it for you. And if you click on the comment bubble emoji it opens a reply thread in slack that counts as a comment in canny.
Its actually super intuitive as a user - i just had 4 people around me look at it and we all tried to click on the arrow together! haha so its expected that it should be able to do that :)

Intense Pigeon: Hey Melissa! This would be a great way for Slack users to lower the barrier for giving feedback. You're right, I think the tricky part here is identity. Thanks for elaborating! It'll definitely be helpful if we decide to prioritize this.

Sarah Hum: Hi Sarah, one more thing. When a user submits an idea / post to our board, there's a slack notification but theres no Slack notification if a user "upvotes" a post. Can we add that? I want users to see in Slack when someone upvotes it in the platform so they can be encouraged to upvote it too

Intense Pigeon: Hi Melissa, you should be able to turn on votes in your Slack integration settings. Hover over your profile > settings > Slack. Let me know if you have any trouble!
