Hide last names from public view

I'd like to share some public information for people viewing and using our board. But, currently it looks like if the Public view is turned on then it displays full names and organizations from Intercom. For confidentiality purposes I had to turn off public since it included full names and orgs. It would be helpful to have an option to only publicly display first names.

Quick update here: our team is opting for completely anonymized boards. You can follow along with the progress of that on this post.
If you still prefer hiding last names over full anonymization, we'd love to hear why :)
Edit: just to clarify, admins will still be able to see full user names in the admin view.

Option to Display Only First Name in Messenger Home Widget

For confidentiality reasons, it would be beneficial to have an option to display only the first name of users in the Messenger home widget. This would help in maintaining user privacy while still showing that real people are interested in a feature. Full names can make it too easy to identify users, which might not be ideal.

Fully Anon is fine, but as a board owner, I would like to quickly know if the same user has made a lot of requests / issues, esp, if they might be related, a first name and last initial or even monogram is easier to remember than something completely random.

Native Canid
Narrow Alligator: Agreed -- usernames would work, but I wouldn't want something completely random. It would be nice to be able to connect what someone says across feature requests too.
Sarah Hum
Narrow Alligator Native Canid: Just to be clear, admins will still be able to see full user names in the admin view. As usual, you'll be able to look at everything any individual user has posted/vote on/commented on. Does that alleviate your concerns?

Sarah Hum: Oh, I'm not an admin, I'm speaking as a Canny user. If I'm reading through comments, it's helpful to know if the same person has commented on the same post multiple times or has posted something related elsewhere, etc.
Sarah Hum
Native Canid: Ah gotcha, thanks for clarifying. The same person will have the same alias elsewhere so should be the same in that case!
N
Narrow Alligator
Sarah Hum: in that case I have no opinion about what the public facing interface looks like

We've been collecting feature requests internally and are in the process of migrating existing feature requests over to Canny. Our customers haven't consented to having their names made public so we cannot show their post authors. We've had to workaround this by renaming everyone in Canny to "Anonymous", which makes the app much harder to use. Are there any plans to implement this?

Ecru Scallop: I just added your vote to this post which we are planning to build soon!

This is also a must from us. Unfortunate that there is no anonymous creation of posts either

+1 to this. Might be the issue that prevents us from buying Canny. I don't want names of submitters to appear on ideas at all, but hiding last names might be acceptable.

And hide emails!
Sarah Hum
Hi Jonquil Fly, emails should not be visible to the public by default.

Sarah Hum: The user users the name field to insert their email. Looks like you made an update recently so we can edit it. thnx!

This is an issue for us to - would be good to hide the full name from the public site and display "Alex R" but in the admin area display the full name.
We kind of worked around by only sending canny the first letter of the surname but it's the same on public and admin - makes it difficult to attribute the comment to someone. Surprised this isn't a feature yet tbh.

The primary issue for me is that the full name of the submitter is public.
Turning off "Show names of people who vote on posts and like comments" does NOT hide the name of the submitter

i feel names add to a sense of community, but yeah wish we can hide last names some customer's don't like it
> i don't think user's real names should be publicly posted, for privacy considerations.
