We currently have 10 boards and each day we delete/merge different posts across these boards. When dug deeper, found that when creating a post, the current board is search and not all of them.

Hey all!
We just shipped this feature, you can find a shiny new search bar on the landing page for your Canny site. In addition, results from all boards will be shown when a user is creating a new post.
These two changes will hopefully reduce the amount of duplicate posts on your Canny boards.

Canny Team, can we please get a general ETA for this feature? I'm currently trying to convince my team to use Canny and this is a must-have. Otherwise, we will have to stick to only using one board. The two features that are needed are (1) a global search field at the top of canny to generally search for items and (2) changing the auto-search functionality when creating a post to include a global search, not just a board-specific search.

Tomato Frog: We don't currently have an ETA for this but can you elaborate on your use case? In some cases, we do recommend using a single board so I wonder if that would be better suited for you.

Sarah Hum: Sure! So I would love to use different boards to organize bugs, feature requests, and temporary categories (e.g. a sprint or a page revamp that involves multiple levels of user feedback).
Overall, I agree with others on this post that we need to make the user experience for creating a post as easy as possible. If a user just wants to jump in and create a post, they may be a bit stressed out that day and accidentally select the wrong board. When typing in a post, I love that Canny displays related posts. My only issue there is that the search is isolated to the single board the user is in. This leads to duplicate posts, which can be a big issue if someone is automatically creating support tickets for canny posts elsewhere using direct integrations or workflows in Zapier. Decreasing the number of created duplicates can save a ton of time for support teams and overall help users get a better picture of issues/feature requests.
A great specific example here is that I use "canny [insert feature request keywords]" into Google every time I'm trying to find a potential feature request for Canny. That's how I found this feature request, actually. It would been very hard to go in and find this post manually and would have been a bit of workaround to search for it using the create post feature. Having a simple search function at the top of Canny would be wonderful.
In relation to controlling this functionality, it would be great if there was an admin toggle for "Global Search on Post Creation <-> Individual Board Search on Post Creation". That toggle would apply for the Canny site as well as any connected widgets/chrome extensions. This way users can customize their experience.

AI scan of the feature request prior to posting to see if their FR is similar to another user.
Or allow the admin the rights to require their review (or delegate rights to a team member) to review the FR prior to it being posted. Then to avoid repetitive feature requests that clog up the board.
Most users simply jump in & post. Versus searching to see if there is a feature request similar to what they are requesting first. They just end up posting

Same problem here. It makes my users crazy, because we got a lot of categories to order things properly, but then there is no global search for the public facing UI, so it‘s a lot of work for them to figure out if something was already posted.

We only have 2 categories and about 100 users who posted feedback, and are already feeling that pain point. Much needed to reduce the duplicates!

Adding an example here - this is our #1 most needed feature! We've found you can search all requests from the Zendesk widget, but not in Canny's public view - which in our case is kept private for our full team to access. We LOVE Canny and the search feature in other areas is great, but it not existing globally in the public view causes a lot of issues:
- Duplicate posts
- Unable to find the post you're looking for, because it's in a different board than expected
- Requires staff to be an admin just to search all posts (except when using the Zendesk integration but that's limited).
- Searching takes a lot longer because you need to look through different boards.
