Disable comments on certain posts or boards

Hey team! We received an inquiry asking for the ability to disable comments on certain boards.
For example, some boards are not actively monitored and we find that users will leave comments that end up not being responded to. We would like to disable comments on those boards to funnel customer comments through normal support pathways. This will also help PMs craft their bi-weekly reports with actual customer quotes provided by our support team.

Hey Reece, can you elaborate on why you want this?

Sarah Hum: It would just a good feature if you don't want people to comment on a post

Sarah Hum: We have a use-case for this. We aren't planning to use the public-facing features of Canny starting out. We want a board where only managers can submit ideas but they shouldn't be admins. Everyone under the managers should take their ideas to a manager to be submitted. That way, we have an easier way to track which features each team wants. We may open it up so anyone can submit and then we'd attempt to tag which team it came from but that's not what we want to do right now. Currently we just want managers to be able to submit. Managers would be a non-admin user group with full post/comment/vote permissions. Then there would be the ability to change the default permissions so that everyone who isn't in the manger group gets different permissions. Those permissions would be: no ability to post, no ability to comment, ability to vote. This is just an example and we'd want to experiment with post/comment/vote permissions so we'd want a separate toggle for posting permission, commenting permission, and voting permission. Untoggling all three permissions would make those users view-only, which could also be useful. Also, it should be possible to pick which board(s) these permissions apply to. We don't want these permissions to be for all boards, just the board that we specify. Similarly, default permissions should only apply to the board and not the entire instance of Canny. What I'm describing here is actually very similar to Metabase permissions so I'd recommend looking into how those work, i.e. view/edit permission can be assigned for each group and each group can be assigned to any folder, then there are default permissions. The highest permission level that a user inherits from all of their groups plus the default permission level is the permission that they have.

Thanks for the feedback Printed Dolphin. I've added your vote to these other posts that I feel are a bit more relevant.
