Assign votes a priority/weight

One of our customers has requested the ability to attach a priority to their votes, so that they can signal the difference between a "nice to have" vs "urgent" feature.

Sería muy interesante poder dejar en la misma solicitud de formulario añadir "cuan de importante" es esa petición para el usuario

Allow voters to set their priority

Today voting priority is only set my the admin
It would be super helpful for users to communitcate the their priority so that Product Manager can better gauge the need and importance, then match to the product direction.

Thanks for the feedback Ryan MacAlmon! The main reason we chose to implement it so only admins can set priority is to prevent noise. As an admin, we're able to have deeper conversations to really understand priority and set it accordingly. I'd be curious to see if other admins agree here.

Sarah Hum Thanks for the reply - totally was not expecting that. :)
I am not an admin of Canny, but a customer of your customer. But I am in the Product Management space internally for my company. When I am voting or submitting ideas on the products I use (and a majority use Canny) it would be great to indicate my business priorites in a objective manner.

I do not think this user story has been delivered.
This user story is :
As an Admin
I want to set the priority
Not what I am suggestion
As a Vote
I want to set the priority
So that my vote does can have a more a quantitative meaning

Vote priorities are live! Head to your voters lists to assign priority to votes. You'll be able to see priority on a user's page and add it as a column to roadmap prioritization. Enjoy!

While we don't use pendo for this the way they implemented prioritisation on the user side is quite nice. It stop people putting everything as urgent by giving them a slide which has to add to 100 - so if they put something as really urgent their other feedback votes decrease in priority. Handy to see changing priorities over time too: https://support.pendo.io/hc/en-us/articles/13585480291355-Requests-votes-and-priorities#my-priorities-0-3

Evergreen Mandrill: Thanks for sharing this! It's a pretty neat mechanic to combat the "everything is urgent" issue. That said, it's quite complex and I'm not sure if a significant number of users would actually leverage it. We'll stick with admins setting priority only for now and revisit if there is interest here. Thanks again!

Planning to support 3 levels of priority to votes: nice to have, important, and must have. For the first version, only admins will be able to specify priority. This keeps the signal as high as possible. Stay tuned!

I'm worried that with the way this feature is proposed, it could cause gaming the system - everything is signaled as urgent, which doesn't help. Here are a couple solutions that would work for me:
- Give an option for only admins to elevate the priority of an upvote. This would happen after reaching out to a user. Of course, this is more helpful in a B2B context where you don't have as many users and are reaching out to more of them.
- Only allow users to have X (maybe 3) "urgent" upvotes at a time.

Thanks for sharing your concerns Frozen Prawn! We have similar concerns and would lean your #1 suggestion if we were to implement this.

Distinguish "nice to have" upvotes vs "must have" upvotes

When a customer upvotes a post, it's hard to tell whether the feature is a "nice to have" or a "must have". When we talk with customers and potential customers, we try to make that distinction to help prioritize features that are truly blocking us from winning new business.
It would be great if as an admin, you could go in and mark certain upvotes as "must have" upvotes. By default, everything would be a "nice to have" upvote. I would only want to give admins the ability to change a "nice to have" upvote into a "must have" upvote because otherwise, voters would probably default to everything as a "must have". I would also like this distinction to be shielded from our voters - only the admins should know about this distinction!

1-5 star vote

A simple pure upvote is indeed pretty mundane and easy. But I would like to give the option to users that they can prioritize your choice. Example: a certain feature would be nice, but is not important, so you could rate it with 3 stars, for example. Another feature, which is very important for you, you can choose with 5 stars. Using stars is imho still mundane, simple and easy to understand and not clunky as if you would use e.g. labels like "not so important", "interesting", "nice to have", "very useful", "must have". Just a suggestion. The 5-star voting system would help especially if there are a lot of feature requests. (This suggestion here, for example, I would want to give four out of five stars).
