By sorting the list randomly we would get rid of the 'false' hype top&trending post have.
The more trending a post is, more visibility it gets and therefore more votes and this loop twist the real preferences of voters/users.

I like it. We're also considering adding an option to hide vote counts. This, coupled with random order, would probably be as close as possibly to absolutely accurate data.
Although we haven't had teams report that feedback gets skewed. If you look at page 3 of some popular boards, there are still posts with lots of traction even though they don't get surfaced in the top list.

Andrew Rasmussen: Thanks Andrew Rasmussen Hiding votes would work as well, either way. I found myself voting on things that were "cool" rather than "essential value adds" and at the top and then clicking through to other pages and losing the same enthusiasm to continue

Xanthic Wildebeest: Yeah, it's worth mentioning that Canny doesn't automate product management – it helps you make more informed decisions. When you're considering building something you can reach out to people who voted on it to do more research.
If votes took more friction then people would vote less. Which I guess you're saying would be a good thing because each vote would be higher signal.
Maybe more detailed votes will be a setting you can turn on via configuration if you want this. I think what we've got now works well for most teams so it'll probably be a while before we get to it.

Andrew Rasmussen: I think we're commenting on the wrong post or crossing wires. But basically I agree. But perhaps it's more of a general vote, then a popover asking if they will categorise their vote? Then it's not "Required" to choose a category for their vote sentiment
