Markdown editing for posts

Github has really streamlined things so that you're able to communicate quickly and effectively. If Canny has a technical audience, then markdown editing may be a worthwhile thing. If not, then it tends to be met with glossed-over stares. I, for one, feel at home when editing markdown. Just a thought!

Hey everyone,
markdown
support is here for posts and
comments! We're using the same syntax that's enabled in our changelog editor. There's no preview mode or formatting toolbar however.
If you have any questions, let us know.

Overseas Gull: this is great! will additional H tags (H2, H3, etc) or indented items in a list be added anytime soon?

Woo!
This is so exciting

Safflower Cardinal: Not on our roadmap at the moment. If you would like extended markdown formatting support then please do create a new feature request for that.
In the future, we may limit markdown features based on context. A comment, for example, shouldn't need as many features as our changelog editor supports.

Basic formatting such as type styles and lists are an absolute must have

Nearly half a decade now. What is it about the Canny philosophy that I am not aware of that rejects basic formatting?

It will be cool to support the full markdown. Notably being able to post multilines code examples.

For example this looks kind of ugly: https://forum.serpapi.com/bugs/p/net-systemthreadingtaskstaskcanceledexception-the-operation-was-canceled (Plus it's making hyperlinks where it should have none.)

The primary blocker here appears to be over-complicating the UI / available features for non-technical users. I wonder if it's worth adding some basic on/off toggles for features like this in settings? That way, if the feature feels appropriate for your audience, you can enable it.
This is something easily added with an npm dependency like marked, and something we would really like to see. We'll often add scope/requirements for Roadmap items, so our top level comments can benefit from additional formatting, code blocks, tables, etc.

Quicksilver Planarian: You need not add anything to the UI other than a button indicating what mode is used.
Really even that is unnecessary if toggling markdown on or off globally is an option.

This would be amazing. People make lots of detailed technical posts that would be much more readable if they had markdown just like GitHub.

Markdown for code blocks is needed for our use case.
